What to Expect
Starting therapy can feel like a big step.
Here's what the process looks like — from your first message to ongoing sessions.
"You don't need to have everything figured out before reaching out. You don't need the right words, a clear sense of what you want to work on, or certainty that therapy is the right choice. All you need is a willingness to take one small step."
Reach out
Send a message through the contact form or email directly. There's no pressure and no commitment — just a simple first step. You can share as much or as little as you'd like.
Schedule a free consultation
If it seems like we might be a good fit, we'll schedule a brief 15–20 minute phone or video consultation. This is a chance for you to ask questions, share what's bringing you to therapy, and get a sense of what working together might feel like.
Meet virtually
All sessions take place via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. You can join from anywhere in Massachusetts or New Hampshire — your home, your car, wherever feels comfortable and private.
Talk about what's bringing you in
Your first full session is a chance to share more about yourself and what you're hoping to get out of therapy. I'll ask some questions, listen carefully, and we'll begin to get a sense of what you're working with.
Decide if we're a good fit
The therapeutic relationship matters. After our initial sessions, we'll check in about whether working together feels right. If it does, great. If not, I'll do my best to help connect you with someone who might be a better match.
Set goals together
We'll work collaboratively to identify what you want to focus on and what progress might look like for you. Goals can evolve over time — therapy is a living process, not a fixed plan.
Begin ongoing sessions
Most clients meet weekly or every other week, depending on their needs and schedule. Sessions are 50 minutes. We'll continue to check in on how things are going and adjust our approach as needed.
A few things worth knowing.
You don't have to be in crisis.
Therapy isn't only for people who are struggling in a serious way. Many people come to therapy simply because they want to understand themselves better, work through something that's been weighing on them, or build skills for navigating life.
It's okay to feel nervous.
Most people feel some anxiety before their first session. That's completely normal. We'll go at whatever pace feels right for you.
Telehealth is real therapy.
Virtual sessions are just as effective as in-person therapy for most people. Many clients find that meeting from home actually makes it easier to open up.
You're in control.
You decide what to share, when to share it, and how long you stay in therapy. The process is yours.
